- Shoppers shared the items they buy from other sections to save them money
- These include kids’ shoes, men’s shower gel and gym gear from menswear
- Some said they prefer men’s toiletries including razors, shower gel and shampoo
- Others said they will buy kids’ shoes and Happy Meals to save valuable cash
Kids’ shoes, men’s shower gel and gym gear are three of the items female shoppers buy from other sections in their favourite stores to save them money.
A woman posted on Facebook where she asked others to list the items they buy that are ‘gender or age specific’ that save them hundreds of dollars in cash each year.
‘I buy men’s shaving gel. My mum sometimes buys kids’ shoes,’ the woman wrote.
‘What are the items you swear by?’

Many highlighted that they regularly visit the menswear section at Kmart for dressing gowns, pajamas and gymwear – which are all often ‘at least $5-$10 cheaper’.
‘I love men’s dressing gowns and they’re so much better,’ one woman posted.
‘I missed out at my local Kmart last winter and bought what looked like a comfy women’s one… the arms feel all wrong and it’s too short, despite buying a large enough size. And the pockets suck!’

Basic menswear including T-shirts and dressing gowns will often be as good quality as womenswear, for a fraction of the price (pictured)
Another said she always buys men’s razors, shower gel, shaving gel and shampoo:
‘I use my husband’s razor and shaving gel,’ one wife posted.
‘We use Radox Oxygen body wash which is unisex so we only have to buy the one between the two of us.’
The same woman said she also saves money by buying the same shampoo and conditioner for her husband and her daughter.
Others said men’s socks are also much better value.

Elsewhere, women said they regularly buy Happy Meals for around $5.50 instead of regular McDonald’s meals.
‘Men’s body wash and deodorant are good ideas as they actually work better,’ one shopper wrote.
‘Clothes from the kids’ section [are great], as they are nicer and don’t cost an arm and leg,’ one woman wrote.
Another said: ‘I save money by not worrying about task specific products.
‘Like why buy shaving cream when you can use soap? I use use soap to shave my legs. I have a shaver that I can just replace the blades…that saves money.’
