At least one swimmer is dead as five people including three children are swept out to sea in horror rip at beach south of Sydney
At least one swimmer has died after five people including three children were swept out to sea off rocks at a popular beach south of Sydney.
Two children have been rescued after being swept off rocks at Woonona, but a man is critical after being pulled unconscious from the water. Emergency services were called to Woonona Beach about 5.40pm after reports several people had been swept into the ocean.
Wollongong Police have been told the two children were playing in the shallows when they were swept out to sea.
Bystanders used jet skis and surfboards the help the children back to shore; however, a man believed to be aged in his 40s, was pulled unconscious from the water.
NSW Ambulance paramedics are now working on the man. The Lifesaver Helicopter has been called to the scene and landed near the surf club.
